Westfalias next project!

Dear friends,

Westfalias next project is on the way. I'd like to make a little nap-quiz rather than properly announcing it. The first reader who comes up with the right answer will receive a small
unit of these gents.

Hints:
- German Foresters in British service
- Were present at Waterloo
- are said to have obtained 2 awi-2 pounders of unkown make

And here is a picture I drew for the sculptor"

Whoever can guess the unit from my rough drawing will receive a full unit of these once the become available.

Feel free to drop me a mail to info@westfaliaminiatures.com in case you don't wish to disclose your identity in the public of this blog.

Best!

  1. I'm guessing here, but the Light Battalion Lüneburg?

  2. The well aimed cannon-ball was passing about 1 meter away from the Generals head.

  3. Changed my mind! Still guessing, but I'll go for the Field Jaeger Battalion under Captain de Reden.

  4. Light Field Battalion Grubenhagen

  5. Another cannon-ball - close enough to to make the General seriously considering to dismount his horse.

Another little hint as the subject is really surprisingly obscure:

The Formation was far below the strangth of the average battalion and fielded about 400 men. It was founded by Jagdjunker von Doering but took the name of the Baron who paid an advance of 200K to keep the formation under arms.

  6. Tankgirl - again bloody close! If I keep the picture of the General then the men around him are torn to pieces. Not sure what a proper General is to do in such situations, but I guess he manly awaits the sudden guess. :-)

  7. Well guessed Monsieur!

The Set will go to the Feldmarschall!

And stay tuned for the first Greens. =)

    1. Thanks Dean. Yeah like very determined Riot-cops somehow.

I aim to produce very dynamic poses that should prove useful for skirmish too.

  11. Well I spent an hour last night trying to figure this out, without doing it. This shocks me because I have a significant number of blog entries about Kielmansegge's jaegers! Just did not link the two. That is great though as you may remember that I need these jaegers to finish off the Hanoverian bde that I am now painting. I was planning to substitute some Calpe Prussians, but you have solved the problem for me.

    1. That's funny, especially since your blog sort of helped me to figure this out. After you posted your "white shako" Hanoverians, I pulled out my old Osprey #206 to look things over.

When I came home last night and saw Kawe's post, I immediately ran over to the bookshelf remembering seeing a similar looking chap. When the plate description talked about foresters and huntsmen, I quickly typed out the answer. :-)

  12. John,

yes, I thought about that. Was mostly considering the Perry-Jaegers as they show a lot of suitable equipment already. Just the Kielmannsegges have a lot of "specials" to them.

They had no knapsack but a big hairy forester-bag (possibly some at Waterloo but unlikely), they had a real sword used by foresters to stop rushing wild-boars, fancy british insignia on the webbing.
And lastly a wide variety of Kollets and headgear.

And yes, then there's this pair of obscure 2 pounders the formation got attached during 1813.

    Something special by all means.

    1. Well I am really looking forward to them, probably use 6-8 skirmisher stands for them as 321 men at Waterloo. The 2 pders sound extremely intriguing, I suspect that you will have these "up your sleeve" as well. Will be interested in constructing some rules for them.

Look forward to seeing the greens.

  13. Yep - Niels is going to make the masters. Just research into that subject is really quite something.
